Get to Know Noor!
Noor Khan is a community-engaged artist, who facilitates the direction, production, and installation of art and film. She is based in Scarborough (a suburb of Toronto), raised in Saudi Arabia, with roots in South Asia. Noor teaches audio, podcasting and video production at BYA.
Due to constant migration and nomadic lineage, she was often a subject of surveillance between and within national borders, and grew up lacking a consistent communal experience and privilege to maintain relationships. Noor turned to art-making as a collaborative process to cultivate community and uses installation as an experiential learning platform for folks with more privilege. This is especially true in her filmmaking practice, where she is able to work with a crew in all stages of production towards larger end goals. She works as an independent producer in the community to help artists realize their vision.
Noor is pursuing her M.F.A in Community Arts from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and holds a certificate in Digital Arts from Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD), as well as a B.A. in Community Development Studies from the University of Toronto.
