BYA hours
School Year (Fall, Spring, Winter): Monday-Friday 11 pm-7 pm
Summer (July 1 - August 31): Monday-Friday, 9 AM-5 PM
Required Meetings: Weekly staff meeting, weekly/bi-weekly meeting with the Youth Opportunities and Advocacy Coordinator, programming meetings as needed with the People and Projects Team Lead, and quarterly planning meetings with BYA staff.
Baltimore Youth Arts is an artist-run, after-school program that provides artistic and professional opportunities to youth ages 14-25, focusing on those involved in the justice system. Our mission is to assist young people in gaining the creative, personal, and educational skills that will enable them to become leaders in their communities.
Position Impact
The Youth Opportunities and Advocacy Supervisor plays a pivotal role in advancing our mission. Working collaboratively with BYA leadership and the Youth Opportunities and Advocacy Coordinator (YOAC), this role champions the rights and well-being of BYA youth participants. Through your leadership and support, you ensure that our programs effectively provide resources, advocacy, and opportunities for growth.
Core Responsibilities
Supervision and Support
Provide guidance, mentorship, and supervision to the Youth Opportunities and Advocacy Coordinator and contracted career readiness and life skills coaches
Ensure that the YOAC effectively carries out program support and coordination duties
Conduct regular check-ins and performance evaluations for the YOAC
Collaborate with BYA leadership to develop and implement strategies for program improvement
Program Oversight
Oversee the coordination of recruitment efforts for BYA programs
Collaborate with the People and Projects Team Lead to solidify enrollment for BYA programming
Support in planning logistics for career readiness classes, field trips, and speaker engagements, and classes at the BCJJC
Ensure accurate tracking of participant attendance and program hours
Facilitate the development of partnerships to enhance program outreach and recruitment efforts
Advocacy and Partnership Development
Lead efforts in advocating for youth involved in the juvenile justice system
Provide court support and assistance in drafting letters of support for youth in detention
Foster relationships with community resource brokers, training providers, and potential employer partners
Maintain strong connections with Occupational Training Providers via TrainUp (CORE)
Team Collaboration
Participate in weekly staff meetings and meetings with direct reports
Collaborate with the People and Projects Team Lead and Executive Director to ensure alignment of programming efforts
Assist in developing field trips and inviting guest speakers for youth engagement
Desired Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field or 4+ years of equivalent experience
Previous experience in youth advocacy, program management, or supervision preferred
Passion for promoting economic, social, and racial justice
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in MS Office/Google Docs
Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred
Willingness to occasionally work weekends and evenings
Must undergo annual background checks
