Summer 2022 Youth Spotlight: Markus B.
Meet Markus, a graphic design apprentice with us this summer:
What is the most interesting thing you have learned this summer?
Probably like editing photos and learning about color transparency. With color transparency, what I usually do is with the scale, where you pick a color and it covers the pictures but it gives it a hue of the color.
What has been your favorite project so far?
The mood boards, for sure. I like sports so I put a lot of sports people and pictures on mine. It was my first time doing something like that and I enjoyed it. It’s like something I would put on my wall at home.
What is something that you are looking forward to this summer?
Nothing in particular, just whatever comes. Maybe designing a sports poster that I can put in my room. Or also maybe designing more tattoos. I didn’t design the tattoos that I have right now, but I did put the ideas together and told the artist what I wanted, so maybe I can get into that.
Has this class impacted the type of art you want to make? If so, how?
It got me into art. I took art classes before at school, but I was never into it. This class at BYA is different than those because there’s more like technology and editing and I like that more. I can do anything I want with a photo now, basically. I also do haircuts. It’s hard! People don’t think it’s hard but I can tell when the line up is bad. You can fix a messed up haircut with a good line up. Now when I see things or watch stuff, I notice it now. Like I know if someone’s barber messed him up.
Favorite Quote: “You gotta challenge yourself to be great.”
I used to get so nervous at with football teams, because some of the people be really big. My friend said this quote to me and it stuck with me since then.
