Field Trips! Baltimore Jewelry Center, Station North Tool Library, Gallery CA...

This summer has been busy with learning new techniques from using DSLR cameras to learning how to use ProCreate on iPads. To get some fresh air and walking in our days, we’ve also made time to go on several field trips!

As you probably know, there is no shortage of cool organizations in the city. There are so many people passionate about different things, and it was exciting to get a glimpse into these different sectors.

1. Baltimore Jewelry Center

Getting to see the space that metalworkers and jewelers work in was an eye-opening experience. Also, how great is it that BJC is right below us around Impact Hub!

Seeing other YouthWorkers in action making rings during our visit was a real-time look into the process for artists here.

2. Station North Tool Library

Thanks to Jessa for showing us through the tool library. It was crazy to see the variety of tools they have available to use and the space they have for woodworking classes and open studio.

There were many young people waiting to talk more with Jessa after her tour and many business cards exchanged. We hope to have some of our youth come back here and be empowered through making and fixing their own things.

3. Gallery CA

Just down the street from Station North Tool Library is Gallery CA and City Arts Apartments!

City Arts Apartments are housing specifically for artists and has a gallery and a dance studio (in City Arts 2)!

It felt like stepping into a mini museum exhibit right out of the apartment. This exhibit was curated by Deb Jansen and intentionally features artwork by older women.

It was great to see young people engage with staff at these community organizations and show genuine interest in returning in the future. Thanks to all the lovely staff who shared their time with us!
