Summer 2022 Youth Spotlight: Tyler
Tyler is an apprentice in our graphic design group this summer!
What is the most interesting thing you have learned this summer?
I learned this summer that I can go beyond my limits. For the logo design project, Mr. Ahmed put me in the lead design group even though I initially put myself in the notetaker group. It was scary to be in the group with the lead designers because they all can draw really well. It was hard at first but now I feel like I can share my ideas more, it became easier after we found a logo to work with, I felt like I could give my input.
What has been your favorite project so far?
Designing the logo, for sure. I liked the times that we got to draw what we wanted to — I like to draw things that make me happy, like sunsets and myself. I like both sketching in pencil and using color.
What is something that you are looking forward to this summer?
I’m looking forward to the billboard project. I’m excited to see how it’s going to turn out, especially because of the topic of self-care and mental health.
Has this class impacted the type of art you want to make? If so, how?
It made me interested in cartoon art and animation. In Procreate you do a lot styles with markers and stuff, I really like reading comic books, so this class made me interested in doing cartoon art in the future.
Favorite quote: “Don’t ignore your potential.”
In theater class in middle school, I was pretty good, but I used to ignore my potential. My teacher could see it and encouraged me and put me in roles, and she said this quote to me and I really like it.
