New BYA Council Member: Jasmine

Meet Jasmine!

We are delighted to welcome Jasmine as BYA's newest council member.

1. What made you decide to join the council? How did you get on board? (Was there a process? How did you get noticed?)

I joined the BYA advisory council so that I can contribute positive ideas to the community and form bonds with other members. I believe I have great ideas that will benefit the participants of BYA as well as myself. Upon joining, I applied for a position, attended a meeting, and had an interview with the council members. I was initially a little nervous about this process because I didn't know how I would be perceived by the members, but I felt very welcomed and included during the meeting and very open during the interview.

2. Why do you think your voice plays a key role as a council member at BYA?

My voice plays a key role as a council member because I am a very inclusive and open-minded person, so I will always be thinking of the greater good of everyone. I believe there are a number of small ways I can help the BYA community that will eventually have a significant impact on it.

 3. What can you bring to the table in terms of incorporating new and improved ideas, based on your experience and creativity?

I am able to organize and organize projects and teach in a more innovative way. BYA already does an incredible job with its process, communication, and class conduct, but I think I can make it even better with my organizational skills and creative ideas.

 4. What's a fun fact about you?

In addition to loving writing, I've always felt that people tend to see the word "art" too objectively, as much as I enjoy visual arts. I believe that art encompasses all aspects of creativity, which is why I believe that writing is also a form of art.

How old are you and what are your future plans?

I am 17 years old, and my future plans include venturing into entrepreneurship as well as studying developmental psychology. I would like to hopefully use my skills and education to reform the secondary schooling curriculum to incorporate arts and basic life skills on a larger scale than what is currently available.
