In the Spring 2021 Career Readiness class, we held virtual workshops for resume building and mock interviews. Apprentices Russell and Gabrielle discussed their experiences with these workshops.
Russell
I really enjoyed both [workshops]. My favorite would have to be resume building because it helps with future jobs. I learned that it’s best to have more selections [on resumes] because it tells more about what you’ve experienced. I learned that you can say every detail but don’t go overboard [in interviewing]. I think I did good [with my resume] because I used the skills I learned in the class. I think my interview was good because I was calm, cool, and collected. [I learned] that being experienced always won’t get you the job and having evidence is always good.
Gabrielle
My favorite was the resume workshop because I’ve never made a resume and I didn’t think it would go as well as it did. I learned that the slightest things like babysitting still mean something on a resume. I learned that eye contact means a lot when it comes to interviews. I think I actually did good on my resume but with some help. I think I did okay [with my interview]. One piece of information is that first impressions mean a lot no matter what the job is. I had a great time in the class. I loved working with Brady and [Amelia] as well. Also that I have learned a lot of useful information that I will be using in the future.
