Summer 2022 Youth Spotlight: Mariah
We are so excited to have Mariah with us this summer in our graphic design group!
What is the most interesting thing you have learned this summer?
I liked learning how to use Adobe Illustrator -- It basically allows you to trace over your own work and it makes your rough sketch more neat. We used it for the graphic design logo to make it look professional.
What has been your favorite project so far?
Designing the logo for the graphic design group because the work everyone put into it. It started with a lot of different ideas and it was cool to have the letters be drawn into the box design. At first we had so many different designs on the board, but picked the top 3 and Mr. Ahmad combined the concepts together. It’s my favorite project because I’ve never designed something like that, I’ve never drawn a box or ribbons before.
What is something that you are looking forward to this summer?
I’m looking forward to the personal project. The idea is to create and show something you struggled with and how you overcame it. I want to draw a girl with glasses and magical stuff around her, like things inspired by Harry Potter, Hunger Games. It symbolizes what my escape was in middle school watching and reading Harry Potter would help me escape into another world!
Has this class impacted the type of art you want to make? If so, how?
Definitely impacted how I’ll make art for the future. I’ve been seeing animated drawings and I just wanted to try that. I’ve never used Procreate before so I can practice here.
