In the Winter 2022 session, Apprentices created artworks as imagined commissions from clients with the aim of learning new skills, as well as meeting deadlines, and project expectations.

Caricature Drawing

Apprentices worked with guest Justin Johnson to learn the basics of caricature drawing, using Procreate and other formats to create caricatures of actor Steve Buscemi

Album Cover Re-design

Apprentices imagined they were commissioned by their favorite musician to redesign one of their most iconic albums with new cover art.

Gallery Show Poster Design - Small Group Project

Apprentices worked in small groups of 2-3 to create a unique poster for a fictional future gallery show at BYA. We looked at various templates and designs, as well as the Globe press style concert posters of the 60s and 70s for inspiration

Painted Photo Portrait Animations

Apprentices imagined they were commissioned to create a digital painting from a  photo in Procreate, and then animate it. We looked at the paintings of Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald for inspiration in color, texture, and subject.
